Roles within the Service
NCDS is more than firefighters. The Service needs a range of skills.
Firefighter
Front-line response to fires, rescues and emergencies. The core operational role of the Service.
Emergency Medical Responder
Casualty care and ambulance response alongside fire and rescue crews.
Search & Rescue Technician
Specialist rescue including confined space, road traffic collision and the River Rescue Unit.
Fire Safety Officer
Inspection, certification, enforcement and fire risk assessment of premises.
Training Instructor
Delivering community, workplace and school safety programmes, and training officers of the Service.
Administration & Support
Finance, logistics, procurement, human resources and the corporate functions that keep the Service running.
Recruitment is announced by the Service. NCDS does not charge any fee to apply, sit a test or be considered for a role. If anyone asks you for payment in exchange for recruitment, report it to info@ncds.gov.ss.
Strengthen your own community
Most fires are prevented by the people who live and work in a place, long before a fire engine is needed. Volunteers extend the reach of the Service.
Community fire wardens
Act as the fire safety point of contact for your neighbourhood, market or residential block, and help NCDS reach households with prevention advice.
Voluntary fire services
Encouraging voluntary fire services at the lower levels of Government is one of the seven strategic goals of NCDS. Communities that want to establish a voluntary unit can approach the Service for guidance.
Safety education volunteers
Support NCDS instructors at school demonstrations, community workshops and public awareness events.
Skilled volunteers
Medical professionals, drivers, mechanics, engineers, translators and communications specialists can all strengthen the Service’s response.
Partner with the Service
NCDS works with government institutions, communities and development partners to strengthen emergency preparedness, response capacity, public awareness and disaster resilience throughout South Sudan. Funding and costing is one of the nine Pillars of Reform.
Equipment and appliances
Fire tenders, ambulances, rescue tools, breathing apparatus and protective clothing. Logistics and infrastructure are two of the nine Pillars of Reform.
Training and capacity building
Fund instructor development, course materials and training facilities so the Service can train internally and externally.
Public awareness campaigns
Support community fire prevention education that reaches households, markets, schools and workplaces across Juba.
River Rescue Unit
Equip and develop the River Rescue Unit, a dedicated pillar of the NCDS strategic plan.
How partnerships work. All support to NCDS is arranged formally through the Service and the Ministry of Interior, and is subject to the Corporate Governance Framework: transparent decisions, effective scrutiny and robust public accountability. The Service adheres to the Presidential Order on zero tolerance for corruption. Contact us to discuss a partnership.
