What we provide

Certification and equipment services

Enforcing fire safety legislation and carrying out fire risk assessments are among the core objectives of the Service. These are the practical services through which we do it.

Practice Certificate

Certification issued by NCDS confirming that a premises meets the fire safety requirements needed to operate. Required for many businesses and public buildings.

Vehicle Safety Certificate

Inspection and certification of vehicles against fire safety requirements, including the presence and condition of on-board firefighting equipment.

Fire Extinguisher Sticker

The NCDS inspection sticker records that an extinguisher has been checked by the Service and shows when it is next due for inspection.

Fire Extinguisher Refilling & Repair

NCDS refills, services and repairs fire extinguishers so that equipment on your premises will actually work when it is needed.

How to apply

Four steps to certification

Make contact

Call or email NCDS with your premises or vehicle details and the service you need.

Book an inspection

An NCDS safety officer will arrange a date to attend and assess.

Receive findings

You are given written findings and any remedial actions required.

Certificate issued

Once requirements are met, your certificate or sticker is issued.

Common questions

Safety services FAQ

Extinguishers should be visually checked by the owner every month and formally inspected by NCDS at the interval shown on the inspection sticker. An extinguisher that has been discharged, damaged or has lost pressure must be serviced immediately, regardless of the date on the sticker.

Premises where the public gathers or where goods and people are at risk from fire — including commercial buildings, hotels, schools, markets, fuel stations and warehouses — are expected to hold current NCDS certification. If you are unsure whether your premises is covered, contact us and we will advise.

You receive written findings setting out exactly what must be corrected and by when. NCDS will re-inspect once the remedial actions are complete. The purpose of inspection is to make the premises safe, not to penalise — our officers will explain what is required.

Yes. Providing safety and fire prevention training to communities to reduce the risk of fire is one of the objectives of the Service. Contact us to arrange training for your workplace, school or community group.
